Kakaako

Honoluluā€™s newest urban-life town.

Welcome to Kakaako

Located inside Honolulu on the island of O’ahu, Kakaako is an exciting new town with abundant island life culture. It touches the ocean on three sides and borders several other Hawaiian communities. People here love the culture and explore the dozens of shopping and dining experiences in this up-and-coming community. The oceanfront is also a huge draw, as many love to stroll or relax along the beach. There are wide sidewalks and trails for bikers and runners along the ocean, with incredible views over the horizon. Due to the water conditions and strong waves, this town is also a great surfing destination.

The local neighborhoods continue to grow and develop, so there’s a good bit of new buildings and homes popping up each year. Over 30 condominium buildings are currently being finished, so there are many opportunities for growth! Park Lane, one of the most beautiful luxury buildings on top of the Ala Moana Center, and the 60-acre planned community of Ward Village (Victoria Place, The Park at Ward Village, A'ali'i, Ko’ula, Ulana Ward Village, and Kalae) are complexes in the center of the community and will be available soon.

What to Love

  • Directly east of downtown Honolulu

  • Newly developed town, with more residences, dining, and retail shops opening soon

  • Many things to do outdoors

  • Bordered by the beach on three sides

Local Lifestyle

With so many restaurants and stores appearing in the neighborhood, Kakaako is becoming a hot spot for anyone searching for international or global cuisine. In addition to the activities taking place by the water, there are dozens of one-of-a-kind shops and recreational activities that make this such an exciting place to live. Many locals love to visit the annual
First Saturday held at Ward Village, a great way to interact with other Hawaii residents and try local foods in the area.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Because Kakaako focuses on international cuisine, there are several tasty places to dine.
Merriman’s Restaurant, a beautiful farm-to-table restaurant with elegant indoor and outdoor seating, is a great place to taste Hawaii with a bistro feel. Merriman’s is the perfect spot for everyday dining or a fun night out.

For an international dining experience, you’ll love eating at Istanbul. With authentic flavors and original recipes, the restaurant serves incredible dishes every day. Experts in Turkish cuisine and culture, Istanbul is owned and operated by a mother-and-daughter team.

Kakaako is also known for its variety of shops and markets, one of the most noteworthy being SALT. With nearly 40 different vendors and merchants, it’s an incredible place for shopping and dining. If you want to taste diverse foods or simply look for a fun afternoon outing, SALT at Kakaako is sure to please. One of the most popular restaurants is Bevy, a European-inspired cocktail bar. It takes a modern approach to timeless foods and always uses local ingredients.

Things To Do

The Kakaako Farmer’s Market, open Saturday mornings, is ideal for finding fruit and vegetables from local farms around the area. There are also vendors with mouthwatering baked goods and treats. You can also pre-order from the farmers to ensure you find all the produce you need for the week ahead.

Ward Village is a master-planned community with shopping, dining, and residencies all in one place. It is also the site for many community events, such as First Saturdays, where residents enjoy delicious specialty items from local vendors at the South Shore Market courtyard.

There are also gorgeous parks within Ward Village that are beautifully tended and provide ample space for dozens of activities. Victoria Ward Park is named after the founder and is an incredible spot for enjoying the outdoors. The park often hosts classes and activities like yoga, making it easy to get plugged in with a group and do something you love.

Ala Moana Beach Park spans 100-acres and holds half a mile of shoreline at the coast. Many come here to swim or run along the glistening water. There are many sites with benches for picnicking and courts for tennis. Both parks are just a few of Kakaako’s biggest treasures!
